💰 The money
What is the exact per-minute rate?+
Your exact rate is written in Schedule A before you sign, currently $0.07 per qualifying minute ($4.20 per qualifying hour). It starts automatically when both your signature and a live course are in place: at course go-live, or on signing day if the course is already live. There is no later activation message, trial period or waiting period.
Will students watch my course while my minute payout is still $0?+
No. Before launch, our team may upload and test the lessons, and that internal quality-assurance activity pays $0. If you sign first, course go-live is the activation date. If your course is already live, signing day is the activation date and earlier viewing is not back-paid. Example: sign on 1 September and launch on 5 September, and pay starts 5 September. If the course was already live on 1 September, pay starts that day. At $0.07 per minute, 100 qualifying minutes after activation earn $7.00.
How long is the agreement, and how long are my terms locked?+
The agreement runs a year, then renews year by year. The clock starts when minute pay starts: course go-live, or signing day if the course is already live. Take three months after signing to record and you still get a full year from launch. That year is a commitment both ways: your course stays in the catalog, and in return your rate is fixed, we keep promoting you, and we cannot drop you either. We review the rate together every six months, and it cannot drop mid-term or without your written agreement. At each annual renewal either side can simply not renew, with no penalty and no argument.
When and how do I get paid?+
Every 14 days or monthly, your choice, in USD by PayPal, or bank transfer where PayPal does not fit. There is no minimum and we pay transfer and currency fees. Your private portal shows settled sales, open payable sales, statements and payment references.
What if a student refunds? Do my minutes get clawed back?+
No. A refund affects the direct sale it belongs to, not watch minutes already earned. For a direct course sale, the refund reduces that sale before the fixed 5.2% fee and your 50% share are calculated.
What happens at the six-month review if I say no to a change?+
Your existing rate continues unchanged to the end of your term. The review is a conversation. We cannot change your rate by outlasting you, and disagreeing costs you nothing. It does not end the year early in either direction, so if we still disagree at renewal, that is where you decide whether to continue.
What counts as a watch minute?+
Forward playback recorded while the viewer has an active subscription and is watching a published lesson in your linked course after activation. Paused videos, dead tabs, internal tests and viewing while somebody has no active subscription do not count. Rewatches by an active member do count. The player records seconds, so partial minutes are not discarded: we total the exact qualifying seconds for the statement period, divide by 60, apply your rate and round the final dollar amount to the nearest cent once.
What happens to my existing Twotap course?+
Lifetime purchases keep their 50% share of net revenue. Net is the buyer payment after refunds and the fixed 5.2% fee. If that course also goes live inside the membership, qualifying subscription viewing starts paying the Schedule A rate at go-live, or on signing day if it is already live.
Will the subscription eat my lifetime sales?+
Nobody can promise zero overlap, so your lifetime listing stays up at full price and your private portal shows direct sales and statements. If a year of real data says membership exposure hurts, you do not renew and you keep the lifetime model.
🖌️ Your content and rights
Who owns my content?+
You do, fully. The licence is non-exclusive and stays non-exclusive for as long as you are with us, renewals included, so you keep selling the same work on Patreon, Skillshare, your own shop and anywhere else without asking us. What the year commits is that the course stays in our catalog until renewal, not that it stays out of anyone else’s.
What about brush sets, sketch packs and written guides?+
They sell on the same terms as a course: 50% after refunds and the fixed 5.2% fee. Written tips and PNG sketches that sit inside a lesson are part of the course rather than separate sales.
Can I reuse my Patreon or YouTube content?+
Yes. Locked Patreon tutorials can live here too, PNG sketches and written tips included. Your channels stay exactly as they are.
What does joining cost me?+
Nothing at all. There is no listing fee and no hosting cost, you keep selling everywhere else, and we only earn when students subscribe.
If I leave, who owns the captions and thumbnails you made?+
Your source material is always yours. The captions, thumbnails and structure we produce go with you, and we stop using your name, face and artwork in marketing once you leave.
How do I leave, and how fast?+
At any annual renewal, by telling us you are not continuing. We take the course out of the catalog within 7 days, while members who already paid for a term keep access until it ends. Direct sales and qualifying minute earnings through the end remain payable. We can also take a course down early if a licensing conflict or personal reason changes things for you.
What if my course just does not get watched?+
You have lost no money, and you keep the distribution: promotion to the member base and Summit list, poll data on what students want, and per-lesson watch data. If the year does not work out, you simply do not renew.
⏰ Your time
How often do I need to upload?+
No quota, no penalty for quiet months. Polls every 14 to 30 days show what students want; you make something only when a topic fits you, and we promote it when you do.
Do I have to run live sessions?+
No. Freya hosts the live programme at launch, and plenty of artists run none. If we later invite you, you can say no without changing your course, rate, promotion or agreement.
How are a live session and its replay paid?+
They are separate from course watch minutes. There is no default live-session fee because no live session is required. If we invite you and you want to do it, we agree a fixed fee in writing before scheduling. The broadcast and replay do not earn the Schedule A per-minute rate. If material is later edited into a published lesson in your course, only qualifying viewing of that published lesson earns watch-minute pay.
Do I have to answer comments or give students feedback?+
No. There is no comment-response quota and no required critiques in this agreement. Freya and our internal team handle the feedback features at launch. If we later test paid artist critiques, taking part is optional and we agree the format, quantity, deadline and separate fee in writing before you accept any student work. Saying no changes nothing about your course, rate, promotion or agreement.
I am still finding my voice as a teacher. Is that a problem?+
No. The best-loved lessons here are the plainest ones: one artist, one technique, honest narration. Polls and lesson questions show you exactly where students struggle.
🎬 Making your first course
I have never made a course. Can you still use me?+
Yes, and several founding invites went to artists in exactly that position. You do not need footage to say yes. Reply, and the first thing we do is agree what your course is and how to shoot it, before you commit a single weekend.
How do I actually film it, and what gear do I need?+
Most lessons here are an iPad screen recording of Procreate with your voice over it. That is it. If you already record for Patreon or YouTube you are over-equipped. You do not have to buy anything, and if a piece of kit would genuinely help, we talk about covering it.
Who edits it?+
You send raw recordings and notes. We handle structure, thumbnails, captions and getting it into the player, and you approve the result before anything goes live. If you prefer to edit your own, that is welcome too.
How long should a first course be?+
Shorter than you think. A focused 40 to 60 minutes on one technique can outperform a sprawling ten-hour course, and a 15 to 30 minute mini lesson is a good start. Length on its own guarantees nothing.
How long from saying yes to being live?+
For an existing course, usually two to three weeks once files arrive. For a new one, you set the pace and we schedule the launch around your recording, not the other way round.
Is there a quality bar, and what if you do not like it?+
We agree the topic and the shape up front precisely so nobody wastes six weekends. If something is not working we tell you early, while it is still fixable, and we help fix it. Nothing goes live without your approval.
🏛️ The platform and students
Is this live courses or pre-recorded?+
Your paid course is made from published lessons. Qualifying subscription viewing pays from activation: course go-live, or signing day if the course is already live. Direct course sales keep their 50% net share. Optional live broadcasts are a separate format with a separately agreed fixed fee, not per-minute pay.
How do students communicate with me?+
Students can leave comments under lessons, but you are not required to answer them. If you choose to reply, or if you accept an optional live session, it all stays inside the platform. No external chat apps and no DMs.
What exactly is a guest session, and how do students join?+
A featured slot where one artist is put in front of the whole membership for a stretch: your work on the member home, an intro session, your courses pushed to everyone. Members join from their dashboard, with nothing to install and no separate signup. It is optional, we schedule it with you, and the full mechanics are walked through at onboarding once you are in.
How often do live sessions run, and must I host them?+
There is no artist schedule at launch because Freya hosts the initial live programme. If we later invite you, it is never required. We agree the topic, timing and separate fixed fee in writing before scheduling. Members join from their dashboard, and the session and replay keep pointing at your course.
Do I get promoted anywhere beyond Twotap?+
Yes. We also run limited-time promotions of your course inside Freya’s Academy, our other live platform with its own paying members. Same rate to you, an entirely separate audience, and no extra work on your side.
How many artists will there be, exactly?+
Deliberately few. We are starting around ten, and if the right artist turns up we would rather be honest that it is eleven or twelve than pretend to a number. What we will not do is turn this into a catalogue of thousands, because the entire point is that every artist stays visible on the home page, in the journeys and in the promotion calendar. You hear about any meaningful change from us first, never by noticing your minutes drop, and since the agreement renews yearly you always get to judge the roster you are actually sharing with before committing to another year.
Who am I actually contracting with?+
FREYA ILLUSTRATION – FZCO Ltd, the company behind Freya’s Academy and twotap.art. Not a new shell built for this: the same entity that already pays out on the 50/50 courses, runs the Summit and holds the platform.
Which artists are already in?+
Freya has courses in the membership as the house artist and is not paid from the external-artist ledger. The rest of the founding round is being invited this month. Ask us who else has said yes and we will answer honestly.
Is the platform actually built?+
Yes. It is live at studio.twotap.art with paying members inside, and every screenshot on this site is from a real signed-in account this week. Sandra Staub’s course is playing in one of them.
